Hooter Hiders for Modest Mums who don’t want to Peek-a-boob!

bebe-1.jpg We’ve all been there… or at least most of us have. You’re in the middle of the mall, with a screaming hungry 3 month old, surrounded by gawking teens, the creepy staring guy and the grannies who think it’s ok to come up and ACTUALLY TOUCH YOUR BABY! The LAST thing you want to do is flop out your breast and nurse. That is, unless you have heard through the mommy-grapevine that there is a solution. Yes ladies, the battle with the receiving blanket is over! Thanks to a fancy neck strap and a little piece of plastic boning, we can nurse privately in public. Or, nurse publicly in private… whatever. No one but your baby and your partner will ever see your goodies again!

I loved the peace of mind I got with this cover. I could easily slip the strap over my head, get my shirt up, the nursing bra unclasped and my baby properly latched (which we all know is not an easy task) all while sitting wherever I wanted. Doors opened! I could now nurse at a family dinner, out in a restaurant, inside whatever store I was in… I even got so bold as to walk, shop and nurse in the baby department of Macy’s in Portland!

The major two producers of these fantastic mommy-savers are Bebe Au Lait and Modest Mums. Both companies got it right with the adjustable neck strap and the rigid neckline, and both companies offer different patterns that are pretty hip. The Hooter Hiders from Bebe Au Lait are the original, and they have what I consider the hippest fabrics and the handy burp cloth corner, and their covers are all 100% cotton. Their covers are between $34 and $38, depending on the pattern.

The Modest Mums covers do not have the burp cloth, but they are double sided, giving you two patterns for the price of one! They also offer a good selection of colors and their new “Baby del sol” cover is made of an ultra-light, breathable, UPF fabric that is going to be great for the summer months! Their covers range from $34 for the cotton covers to $48 for their pretty silk line.

If you are a breastfeeding mama, or will be soon, you have got to get one of these covers. They are fantastic and an absolute must-have if you plan on leaving the house with your baby. Get one!
