Brand Highlight: Strasburg

dsc01988-1.jpgWhen I started trying to choose my son Christian’s outfit for Easter I knew just what I wanted to find. I wanted to find that special outfit that made him look like the little boy he is. At just 3 months old I am not quite ready to start the kahki pants and plaid shirt combo that I know are standard little man special occasion clothing. I love Jon Jons and longalls and everything ‘prissy’ and boutique for a boy, I mean they are only babies once right? What exactly is a Jon Jon you may ask? It is generally considered to be a boy’s one piece shorts outfit. It usually is sleeveless, though I have seen a few short sleeve outfits also referred to as a Jon Jon. The sleeveless outfits are designed to be worn without a shirt underneath which is what differentiates them from a pair of overalls. They got their name from Jon Jon Kennedy, son of the late President John F. Kennedy. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis often dressed her son in Jon Jons (hence the name) and we all know that Jackie O had exquisite taste.

So off I went on my mission. Scouring mostly online retails and resellers till, finally, I found the perfect little outfit. When I opened the package the first words out of my mouth were, “It’s beautiful!” The perfect shade of robin’s egg blue the short-sleeved shortall was exactly what I was looking for. And so, a love affair with yet another brand has begun.

Strasburg is a catalogue, online, and brick & mortar store retailer that offers beautiful, quality clothing for little boys and girls in traditional styles. The prices are little higher then that of every day wear but if you are looking for something perfect for a special occasion, a wedding or maybe a christening or dedication this would be a great place to look.

Their styles are beautiful and timeless. I can imagine that if I pass Christian’s little outfit on to him when he has his first son, the outfit might actually be worn. I won’t hold my breath or anything but it is the type of outfit I have pictures of my own father wearing over 60 years ago, and my brother wore 25 years ago.

My brother is getting married in August and Marissa is going to be his flower girl. Strasburg offers an entire line of flower girl dresses and ring barer sets that are simply darling. I started looking through their site to recommend dresses to my future sister in law and fell in love with a dress that was featured in the fall 2007 issue of Martha Stewart’s Weddings. It is a white slip dress with interchangeable sashes. I don’t know if they will want it for their wedding, but I purchased it anyways-it was on sale so I had to. It is considered a beach dress or portrait dress so I plan to use it for summer pictures if nothing else.

If you love smocking you will love Strasburg. They have hand smocked bishop dresses for the little ladies and hand smocked bubbles for the little guys. They also offer matching brother sister looks for Easter, Christmas, and everyday. You can find them at www.strassburgchildren.com. Their site has a list of their store locations, some of which are outlets. Their new spring & summer items are out and their fall and winter items are on clearance. I just found out there is one closer to me then I thought! I think its time for a shopping trip! Hmm writing this blog could get expensive…
