Baby Bookworms! Summer Reading For Kindergarten-2nd Grade

This is my third year of being a stay-at-home mother to my three boys. Before having my last (2) boys, I was a reading and language arts teacher/resource teacher for fifteen years in the public schools. Although, I love being a SAHM/WAHM mother, one thing (among others!) that I miss about teaching is keeping on top of the latest books for kids. Part of my job as a resource teacher was to generate book lists and recommendations for teachers, students, and parents. I also was expected to have read a lot of the books since many of them were implemented into the curriculum. As a member of the International Reading Association (IRA), I was able to access their book lists, articles, and attend their book conferences and meet many authors!

For this post, I decided to check out what book titles the IRA recommends for children for 2008. What follows is a list of book titles that were recommended by children! The IRA has been hosting this “Children’s Choices” since the 1970’s! These are great read-alouds, picture books, perfect for summer reading programs, or just summer readng in general. Keep a few in the house for a rainy day! Have fun!!!
